Welcome to The Harry Warren Web
Site! This site was created in memory of Harry Warren, one of the greatest
American composers of the 20th century. His music touched the lives of
many people, young and not quite so young, and yet very few people associate his
name with his music. The intent of this web site is to familiarize people
with the music of this great composer and give him greater recognition with the
general public, and also to help get people interested in good melodic music
again. Please feel free to browse this entire site with the links to the
left or below to listen to (and perhaps sing)
hundreds of Harry's wonderful melodies. There are over 700 exclusive
hand-made MIDI sound files here, many of which you will be familiar with, many
of which you won't be familiar with (but should)!
The tune that should be heard playing in
the background is one of Harry Warren's loveliest, obviously inspired by
Puccini, an untitled instrumental
love theme he wrote for use in the movie "Forty-Second Street"
(1933). This was said to be the first melody Harry Warren heard played
live by a Hollywood
orchestra and he actually burst into tears when Leo Forbstein gave the downbeat
to the Vitaphone orchestra and they started playing it.

Harry with Oscar #2.
"I've always written music the way I felt it. I write for the
public because I feel like the public, the way they would write if they could.
You don't have to know anything about music to understand what I write.
Mine are simple melodies. In music there are certain chords that are
tender and poignant – it's the universal language." HARRY WARREN (December
24, 1893 - September 22, 1981)
